Six years ago, we founded Jam for Justice, with the simple belief that music is a positive and powerful way to bring people together so that they may better their world.
Over the years, we have engaged thousands of individuals, donated close to $25,000 to causes in need at home and abroad, and worked with over 100 artists. We are proudly administered entirely by volunteers, and supported by 19 CEGEP and university chapters, run by a passionate, hardworking team of over 90 students.
How did it all begin?
In 2010, we set out on a mission to support social development and well-being through music. By 2011, we were organizing our first busking sessions and benefit concerts at venues across Montreal.
In 2013, we started our first chapter, McGill Students Chapter of Jam for Justice, bringing together like-minded students to help us further our mission. In 2015, we formed our first chapters outside of Quebec, and launched our first community programs, Concerts for Comfort, Musicall, and the Jam for Justice Award.
This year, KickDrum joined our family, and together, we aim to support independent local artists in the creation of vibrant creative communities, with a special focus on supporting J4J programs and environmental causes. We’ve also established brand new chapters across Canada and, for the first time ever, into the United States.
Over the next year, we plan to implement our programs in communities wherever music lovers and social justice enthusiasts are found, support new causes with a focus on mental health, and expand internationally.
We have come a long way, and could not have come this far without the support and encouragement of our volunteers, chapters, artists, and supporters like you. Thank you for believing in us.
Here’s to the year ahead! We look forward to celebrating with you, and continuing to make the world a more musical place, united in its support of the development and well-being of every individual.
Peace, love, and music—forever!
