As someone who grew up loving music, I thoroughly appreciated every second I spent working at Jam for Justice McGill with fellow students who shared my enthusiasm. Our mutual passion for music went into every event we spearheaded, our benefit concerts, and our musician volunteer outings at retirement homes and hospitals. The social events we hosted provided a community and forum for other music lovers at McGill to meet and collaborate, and helped promote the creation of several thrilling new campus bands and groups. After two years as President, my experience with Jam for Justice has been not only professionally valuable, but also immensely fun.
There was a lot of trial and error involved in helping start a new Jam for Justice chapter at Marianopolis College but that made the experience all the more worthwhile. Along with five other executives, I was able to help organize a variety of events throughout the year that were fun and interactive. Being apart of Jam for Justice has given me the opportunity to meet passionately driven individuals and has helped broaden my definitions of social justice and community service.
I was hoping to join an organization in university that supported social well-being. After attending my first J4J trivia night in my second semester at Concordia, I was excited to partake in such an innovative project. It’s great to have found driven individuals who want to make a difference through our shared passion for music and I feel as though my time as an exec has only intensified my willingness to be a part of that change. I can’t to embark on another amazing year with my J4J team!
Chapter executives (execs) are CEGEP and university students that help run Jam for Justice chapters! Becoming a J4J chapter exec is an excellent way to meet like-minded students, get more involved on campus, gain professional leadership experience, and support important causes. Best of all, since chapter execs are equal players on the same team, getting involved is a flexible and fun commitment! Chapter execs are trained by J4J’s Chapters Co-Directors, and set objectives at the beginning of each semester to implement J4J programs in and around their school community.
